Here's a quote from the first chapter in the book:
I began to formulate a devotional study for our family to use, to help them understand WHY Jesus came to earth, how His coming was prophesied for many thousands of years, since the Fall. In it I also emphasize the very real fact that He is coming again, and that we needed to be ready. While reading and discussing this devotion we often talked about how to know for certain you are saved, and how to become a Christian and grow as a Christian. We often would sit, after I read the devotional or told a story, talking about it over some fruit tea. I always tried to have questions for each child, asked directly to each child, on their level of understanding, making sure that one child does not monopolize the whole conversation.
Over the years, our Advent season has changed to fit our family. We try not to be too liturgical with it, but keep it fun as well as Jesus-Centered. I have seen many books that go into some in depth strict liturgical plan pertaining to this and other holidays, which trips many people up. If we make things too complicated during such a busy season, it will likely fall by the wayside. Many times if we get too focused on doing things "just right" we lose sight of the whole point of the celebration - pointing our families to Christ during a hectic, materialistic time of year.
If your family needs a guide to help stay Christ-centered through this upcoming, busy season, you might like to take a look at Kimberly's book. Her website, Joyful Momma Online, contains a wealth of other resources, too, designed to encourage wives and mothers as they glorify God in their everyday lives.
