Remember Highlights for Children?

Remember Highlights for Children magazine? If you’re between the ages of 2 and 72, you’ve probably read an issue and maybe subscribed to it as a kid; the magazine recently celebrated its 60th birthday – and the post office delivered its one-billionth issue this past August to a subscriber in Dallas. That’s a billion-with-a-B issues. That’s a lot of Fun with a Purpose!

I had a subscription to Highlights when I was a kid. When my boys were growing up, we subscribed for years and also belonged to some of their book clubs. They have a lot more products available now, including great toys and puzzles and lots more publications, but there’s just nothing more exciting to me than the original magazine.

Highlights for Children now has a website. They’ve grown into the information age, but I don’t think there could ever be a substitute for a child holding his own copy of the magazine in his little hands, searching through to his favorite feature. Remember your favorite section? Was it Goofus and Gallant? Science Corner? The crafts? If your favorite was Hidden Pictures, then you might like to know that you can print a Hidden Pictures page on your very own computer via the Hidden Pictures Hotlink on the Highlights for Children website. Just look on their home page under “Fun for Families” at the bottom of the left column and click on the link. It opens a pdf document with the monthly Hidden Pictures puzzle which you can print and solve. When you're finished, you can even share it with your kids!

I hope you’re more successful with your Hidden Pictures puzzle than I have been today with mine. Maybe it’s because I’m not between the ages of 6 and 12, but I still can’t find that boomerang!
