Do you like old-time radio? If so, then do I have a treat for you!
The CINNAMON BEAR is the classic story of Judy and Jimmy Barton who search for the family's Silver Star which goes on top of their Christmas tree. They discover the star has disappeared from the attic. Then they meet The Cinnamon Bear, and fly to Maybeland in his Soda Pop Airplane in pursuit of the Crazy Quilt Dragon, whom they believe took the ornament. They meet a host of characters, including Crazy Quilt Dragon, The Wintergreen Witch, Fe Fo the Giant, and even Santa Claus.
The Erskine family of www.homeschoolradioshows.com is graciously offering this entire series of 26 12-minute episodes FREE! This is perfect for family listening during the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Go to www.the-cinnamon-bear.com to read more about the series, listen to the first episode, and sign up to receive links to the rest of the series - and a coloring book - all absolutely free, no strings attached.
When our boys were little, we listened to radio programs and tapes often. If your family has not experienced listening like this, I highly recommend you try it; it's SO much better than watching TV. Absolutely nothing stimulates the imagination better than a well-written, well-read story such as this one. Print out a coloring sheet, grab the crayons and have the children color while they listen. I promise, they won't want to stop listening after just one episode.
If you try it and like it, do leave a comment and let me know!
P.S. A disclaimer from the Erskines: "Content Note: In this 26 part childrens' holiday audio series, the characters do encounter a witch and some magical creatures. These are NOT "Harry Potter" type realistic characters, but old fashioned cartoony 1930's versions. However, because some parents wish us to let them know if there are elements of magic in a program in any shape or form, we're letting you know that now. "

I'm trying it! I was born after the radio shows, but got ahold of some Jack Armstrong, the All American Boy and that became my son's most favorite thing to listen to!! We did alot of traveling at this time and those cassette tapes were pretty much all we listened to. He loved to imagen the mysterys and adventures Jack and his friends went on - Easter Island was the favorite! There's alot to be said for those old time radio shows!
